South African derby Bulls optimistic of playoff spot - Super Rugby news
The South African based derby Bulls are happy to grab a narrow margin victory over the New South Wales Waratahs. The Bulls secured the victory by 23-17 in a Super Rugby match played on June 3. The victory has boosted the Bulls further up on the point tables
from seventh to fifth and they are hopeful of making their place in the top four sides before the end of the round matches.
The Bulls, who are also the defending champions of last year’s Super Rugby season have to win both their remaining matches to secure their position for the semi-final stages. On the other hand, the Waratahs are also happy to secure the bonus point in the
match to increase their chances.
Talking to reporters in a pitch side interview after the match, the Bulls skipper, Victor Matfield, declared the victory a great achievement. He further said that triumph will boost the side in the remaining matches of the season. He added that they started
off the game well but lost the momentum midway.
He further said that the match had converted into a very tough situation at the interval but his side did well to snatch victory. He stated, “We are starting to get momentum now. It's nice to be in the top six but we need to win our next two matches”.
Meanwhile, the Waratahs coach, Chris Hickey, was a little disappointed over his team’s performance. The victory could have put them in a very good position for the semi-final stages. Speaking to the media, Waratahs coach said that, “But I still think if
we can take care of our own games against the Highlanders and then the Brumbies I'm still reasonably optimistic that the other results may flow our way and get us into that top six spot. I'm certainly proud of the effort and the character that the team showed
in difficult circumstances.”
The Bulls will take on the top ranked South African derby, Stormers, on June 11 while they will contend the Sharks in their last round match of this year’s Super Rugby season after that.
