South African swimmers astonish in swimming events: South African LC Nationals – Part 4
After the blistering performances of South African stars on third day of the Long Course Nationals in Durban, the crowd’s attention was diverted to the scheduled events of fourth day of the tournament.
The session included 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 200m butterfly, 200m breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley (IM) in Men’s and Women’s category.
The first event of the session was Men’s 100m freestyle semi-finals, where Gideon A Louw remained prominently faster from his fellow swimmer and qualified into the playoff as finest swimmer by touching the wall with an effort of 48.74 seconds.
His effort was trailed by Darian Townsend, who stayed marginally slower from his foregoing finisher and entered the playoff as second best swimmer with the timing of 49.10 seconds.
The 27-year-old Townsend was chased by Graeme J Moore, who was almost two strokes slower and submitted a time of 49.53 seconds for third best position.
Next was the Women’s 200m freestyle playoff, where Karin Prinsloo seized gold medal of the discipline by reporting a time of 1 minute and 59.53 seconds.
Prinsloo was trailed by Leone Vorster, who settled on the finishing blockade as silver medallist by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 00.47 seconds.
The 24-year-old Vorster was trailed by Wendy A Trott, who finished her swim in third best place by producing a time of 2 minutes and 02.80 seconds.
Following that, Chad G Le Clos dictated terms to his challengers by winning gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly. The 20-year-old Le Clos proved his dominance over his challengers by occupying gold medal of the discipline with the timing of 1 minute and 56.17 seconds.
His effort was followed by Sebastien Rousseau, who remained full body length behind and tapped the wall for silver medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 57.88 seconds.
The third spot of the race was secured by Dylan Bosch, who stepped on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by reporting a time of 1 minute and 59.57 seconds.
After that, Mandy T Loots served notice of her talent by dominating the Women’s 200m butterfly semi-finals. The 33-year-old Loots stifled hopes of her competitors in the distant butterfly event and qualified into the final as top contender for gold medal by posting a time of 2 minutes and 13.05 seconds.
She was followed by Bianca J Meyer, who snared second best position of the event by posting a time of 2 minutes and 18.54 seconds.
Meyer was chased by Jessica Liss, who occupied third best qualification spot of the race by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 23.09 seconds.
In the meantime, Neil Versfeld conquered the semi-finals of Men’s 200m breaststroke by outsmarting his challengers with the timing of 2 minutes and 12.35 seconds.
His fastest qualification effort was trailed by Rory L Buck, who stayed almost five seconds behind and completed his race with the timing of 2 minutes and 17.55 seconds for first position.
Buck was trailed by Terence Parkin, who stayed almost half body length behind and made his way into the playoff by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 18.35 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all listed events while these finalists will compete with each other in their respective playoffs, where the winners will receive medals.
