Otto further added, “I had never been here before so it was a decent start and then today I felt a lot more comfortable on the greens and made the putts which is the difference”.
The duo are sitting in the clubhouse, anxiously watching the Masters runner up Louis Oosthuizen, who is all set to claim the outright lead of the event through the halfway mark.
After a blistering opening round of six-under, 66 on the first day, Oosthuizen is now gradually climbing up the leaderboard with two birdies on the card for the moment.
He has not dropped a shot as yet and has still to play for the remaining six holes on the back nine. Oosthuizen is trailing the leaders by a mere one shot.
While the South Africans might be on fire at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, German Martin Kaymer has also shot into contention with a strong five-under, 67 on the second day.
He started off the day with three birdies in his bogey-less front nine and made the turn to card three more on the back.
He dropped just one shot at par-four, 13th. He is now settling for an aggregate of seven-under, 137, trailing the leaders by two strokes.
Kaymer said, “I played really well today and gave myself a lot of birdie chances. I had a good eagle chance on three and felt like a hit a lot of good putts but maybe just over-read the greens. But I am seven under for the tournament now which is good and I feel good about the game”.
Kaymer had another disappointing week at Augusta National last week where he finished for low of joint 44th.
This is the first time in Kaymer’s career that he was able to make the halfway cut at the Masters in his past five starts.
Defending champion Matteo Manassero is yet to prove himself amid the strong line-up of international players and will have to outperform the field in order to retain the title over the weekend.
Opening up with a humble two-under, 70 on the first day, Manassero has now fallen for an even-par on the second day and is now settled for joint 35th on the leaderboard.
