South Africa’s choking surprises Shane Watson – Cricket News Roundup – Part I – October 1, 2012
Veteran Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has been surprised by South Africa’s customary choking in global events, despite being favourites.
"Every tournament we go into, they've got an unbelievably strong side," said Watson after crushing the Proteas by eight wickets in a Super Eight encounter, on Sunday. "They've just got an amazing amount of talent. I'm not exactly sure why they can't seem to really perform at the big events over the last 10 or 15 years," he added further.
The Proteas have a history of choking in international tournaments. They have not won an http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 sponsored tournament since 1998 Champions Trophy, despite always being among the favourites. They are repeating the history in the ongoing World T20 tournament, and are tottering on the brink of elimination.

Doherty, the 29-year-old Tasmanian left-arm spinner, who was picked for South Africa game ahead of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JP-Duminy-c1742, to restrict the Proteas to a gettable 146 for 5.
"Doherty really helped put South Africa on the back foot," said Bailey while speaking to media reporters after the eight-wicket victory against De Villiers and his men. "It is a great start for Doherty, he was brought in to pick up some early wickets against batsmen who like the ball to come on a bit more and he did the job," the Australian skipper added further.
In-form Australian all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558 has said that he will continue with his consistent form until his side wins its maiden World T20 trophy.
Shane Watson has been performing consistently in the T20 showdown right from the start of the tournament. He has claimed four man of the match awards so far, and is at the top of run-scoring, wicket-taking and six-hitting list.
"Nice to be able to continue to play well. I know how important my role is. It's still a h**l of a long way to go and I want to continue," said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 after clinching his fourth Man of the Match award on trot, on Sunday.
