  1. Cape Horn is the only place that the Pacific Ocean  is in contact with the Atlantic Ocean, since the Pacific is 1/2 to 1 mt taller obviously the current would flow from west to east at this point.

This is considered the most challenging passage for sailing ships due to the combination of strong winds, the ocean current and Icebergs, specialy if your traveling against the current.

My Greatgrandfather  was a construction engineer who went to work to northern Chile (Iquique) arround 1895. He never wanted to go back to his homeland Newport, UK due to the terrible experience of crossing Cape Horn, unfortunatly he died before the Panama Canal was built in 1914.

If you look at a map you'll see that the southern tip of South America and the northern tip of the Antartica peninsula, are both pointing East, this is due to the combination of the continents movement plus the strong current at Cape Horn.
