Hi,

Im going to sit the learners test to get my "L's" license. Can anyone tell me if after I succeed and get my "L's" do i have to wait 6 months to start and get my Provisional License.Im choosing to do the Log book test for my "P's" where I get an instructor to teach me.Im 19 years old and I previously had my "L"s for 2 year but accidently let it expire so i have to sit the test again.I really dont want to have to wait for 6months from the date I get my 'L's" tp get my "P's".

Thanks in advance!!

  1. Being from SA and currently on my P's i know whats the go. You still have to wait until the 6 months finishes to gain your P plates.

  2. I can't answer that one.  Here we can have a license at 14 yo under certain conditions.  Everyone can have an operators license at 16 and the cost is minimal.  What's with all the Ausi government control?  I thought you guys had more freedoms than that.

  3. From 31 October 2005 - Under the new rules you will not be issued with a Provisional Licence until you have held a Learner's Permit for a total period of at least six calendar months and are aged at least 16 years and six months and have completed at least 50 hours of driving which includes at least 10 hours of night driving with a Qualified Supervising Driver.

So, from reading this -  I think you do not need to wait for the 6 months. To double check I would call transport SA or ask a driving instructor.. Good Luck!
