South Australia v Tasmania – Ryobi One-Day Cup (4th match) – Match Recap
A solid all-round performance from Jason Krejza enabled the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844 Redbacks in the 4th match of the ongoing Ryobi One-Day Cup, 2012/2013, played at the Adelaide Oval on October
14.
The previous encounter between both teams, in the final of the 2011/2012 Ryobi One-Day Cup in February this year, had seen the Redbacks emerging triumphant to claim victory, and the cup. However, the Tigers managed to turn the tables this time around.
The Redbacks won the toss and decided to field first, proceeding to launch an effective bowling attack, which saw all 5 bowlers claiming at least one wicket each, while skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/J-Botha-c1610 claimed 3 for 42, and Daniel Worrall took 2 for 68.
The Tigers’ batsmen were unable to apply themselves at the crease for long, and the fall of wickets began with the early dismissal of opener Mark Cosgrove (2) in the 5th over off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Graham-Downton-c44379 Cowan (13)
managed to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 it out at the crease for longer, but Cowan was soon dislodged by Botha in the 11th over, and Paine followed suit in the 13th, run out by wicketkeeper Tim Ludeman.
Skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 top-scored for the team with 47, in addition to setting up a 44-run stand for the 5th
wicket with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aiden-Blizzard-c958 (18).
Blizzard became Botha’s third victim of the day, and by the time Ponting was sent back to the pavilion, caught and bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Faulkner-c1643 (32) and Jason Krejza (33) ensured
that the team did not finish on a low total, and set up a 46-run partnership.
Falkner fell prey to Worrall in the 44th over, but Krejza carried on, establishing a 41-run partnership for the 8th wicket with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Christian-c1308,
Doherty, aided by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Laughlin-c47596 (7*), got the team up to a final total of 221 by the end of 50 overs.
To make up for the insipid batting performance, the Tigers’s bowlers came out in full force, led by Krejza (10-0-35-4), with Laughlin (9.5-0-46-2) and Doherty (13-3-50-2) playing supporting roles.
After the 49-run opening stand between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tom-Lexley-William-Cooper-c94199 (18).
Coming in at number 5, Christian remained the top-scorer for the Redbacks, contributing an unbeaten 81, but was unable to find any consistent batsmen to partner with, save http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tim-Ludeman-c2672 (14). The remainder of the batting order registered
dismal scores, with three batsmen – skipper Botha, Worrall, and Haberfield – dismissed on duck.
Nevertheless, a victory looked achievable for the Redbacks, who required 11 runs from the final over. However, Haberfield’s dismissal on the second last delivery saw the Redbacks finishing all out at 218, granting the Tigers a 3-run win.
