South Australia v Tasmania – Sheffield Shield (5th Match) – Match Recap
Two massive centuries from Mark Cosgrove and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Luke-Butterworth-c1850, saw Tasmania claiming a comprehensive victory over South Australia, by an innings and 30 runs, in their Sheffield Shield match
played at the Adelaide Oval, from October 9 to 12.
Tasmania won the toss and elected to bat first, going on to put forth an impressive performance which saw the South Australia bowlers looking on helplessly. Only http://www.senore.com/Cricket/J-Botha-c1610 (15-2-63-1) managed to make feeble dents
in the Tigers batting order, while the remainder of the bowling attack went wicketless.

Cowan contributed 35 before he was trapped lbw by Botha in the 27th over – however, Cosgrove went on to rack up a massive individual score of 104, in addition
to joining Doolan for a 166-run stand for the second wicket.
The 68th over saw Cosgrove run out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 (85*). By the time Doolan was dismissed lbw by Putland in the 105th
over, Tasmania’s score had swelled to 373. However, the team did not stop there, and aided by an unbeaten 30-run stand between Ponting and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aiden-Blizzard-c958 (16*), posted a mammoth final total of 403 on the second day of play.
The stellar batting performance was followed up by an equally fierce bowling attack, led by Player of the Match Butterworth, who claimed 6 for 49 during SA's first innings, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Faulkner-c1643 (2/41) and Jason Krejza (2/25) played supporting roles.
Butterworth picked up both opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Miller-c76318 (23) and Ferguson (48) made a valiant attempt to steady the innings, their 65-run partnership for the third wicket was also broken up
by Butterworth, who swept in to dismiss Miller in the 23rd over.
Faulkner sent both Ferguson and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Christian-c1308 (4) packing in the 26th over, and Butterworth followed up with the wickets of Travis Head (4) and Botha (0), with the team finishing at 93 for 7 by the end of day 2.
The third day saw Butterworth claiming his 6th wicket by dismissing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chadd-Sayers-c49520 (38*) attempted to revive the innings, but their 107-run stand for the 9th wicket was unable to stand
up in the face of the Tasmanians. Krejza polished off Ludeman and Putland (4), and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844 were all out at 224 on day 3 – still 179 runs away from 403.
After being forced to follow on, South Australia kicked off their second innings but the Tigers did not allow them any respite, with Butterworth (4/40) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Maher-c41933, Faulkner, and Cosgrove picked up one wicket
each.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cooper-c51561 (14) packing for paltry scores, while Ferguson (22) was eliminated by Faulkner. Head fell to Cosgrove after a meagre contribution of 4 runs, and Butterworth dismissed both Hughes (37) and Botha (5), to bring his match
tally up to 8 scalps by the end of day 3.
The last day saw http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 rounding up the victory, with Player of the Match Butterworth claiming both Christian (14) and Lyon (0) in the 43rd over to finish with match figures of 10 for 89, while Ludeman (19) and Sayers (17) were sent packing
by Bird and Maher respectively. By the 52nd over, South Australia were all out at 149, with Tasmania claiming an emphatic victory by an innings and 30 runs.
