Question:

South Brittany beach holiday - but where?

We're going to south Brittany for 2 weeks in September. At the moment, we're down to choosing between Carnac and Damgan (which is much smaller, maybe too small). I've ruled out la Baule as too big (though maybe I'm wrong as I've never been there). I've just read on someone's blog that Carnac is full of Brits and Irish which is absolutely not what we want - when I go to France I want to be among French folk.

Basically we'll take the bikes and walking boots with us and use them most days. Then we like to relax with a swim before wandering out on foot to get a crepe. (We'll rent an appartment on the internet.) It must be in south Brittany as the weather's usually warmer in September.

Any views on our choices, or other suggestions? Many thanks.

  1. Carnac, the only possible beach holiday - the best one I ever had and it wasn't full of Britons and Irish.

  2. Carnac has my vote, too, although we usually stayed around Pont Aven (famed for its watermills and Fou Mad biscuits)and drove out to somewhere like Port Manech beach which gave us the best of all possible worlds and few Nationalities other than resident Bretons and holidaying French.

By the way, we found a fabulous beach near Riec sur Belon a few years ago - totally deserted apart from the oysters!
