We are planning this trip next summer with my inlaws and three kids ages 9, 4, and 1. Any suggestions for how we should go about it? Where to go first and how many nites to stay in each place. Thank you!

  1. Well first it all depends on how much time you are allowing each place and the trip in total. If you are doing the Badlands and Mount Rushmore, two days is more than enough.

Glacier National Park is also very beautiful but unless you love to hike, there is not much to do for the kids or older folks. So plan on two or three days. Be sure to go from Glacier down to Yellowstone through Helena and the Swan Valley. Absolutely gorgeous and a critical grizzly bear habitat area.

You should end your trip with the cream of the crop... Yellowstone! Plan on spending the most time here. There is so much to do that a week would be perfect. But you can do it in less time. Whether you are camping or staying in cabins/hotels, be sure and make your reservations at least 6 months in advance. There is tons of things for the kids to do as well. Check out the links I have here for the Junior Ranger Program and other kid stuff. Follow some of the others for more info on the park and what kinds of things you can do. So much of this trip will depend on how much total time you have.

    Have a great time!

Stay at the Rushmore KOA in the hotel or cabins (approx 65-95 a night) then visit (3 days min)

    Deadwood

    Custer State Park

    Wind Caves in Custer

    Crazy horse

then up to Glacier ( 2 days min)

    Then down to
