  1. South Dallas In some areas are good but mostly is considered gang area or the hood. I know I use to live there. It is getting better. But if you are single you might want to reconsider.

  2. For the younger and more inner city people of Dallas, the term south Dallas is reconized to be the area south of fair park from Pleasent Grove all the way west to downtown. It doesnt really fit its name because it is larger east to west than it is south.Actual south Dallas is Oak Cliff down to Duncanville.Anybody living in Pleasent Grove,Oak Cliff,West Dallas (actually literal) will reconize south Dallas as I decribed. As for living,it is the poorest area of Dallas (some parts of west Dallas and Oak Cliff are comparable) but crime IS moving more north.Personally I wouldnt recommend the area.Ive lived in Pleasent Grove all my life and south Dal is just a few blocks away so Im there alot and know what its like.If youre concerned enough about an area to ask online,I think you'd be happier around Oak Cliff (physically south Dal but not known for the name). The same rule goes for "east Dallas"...it is the area directly east of downtown to White Rock lake.Physical east Dal would be Pleasent Grove but its another "insider term".

People may give you all kinds of definitions of south Dal but I didnt see any answer w my description which leads me to think that these ppl live nowhere near it or are old school and are describing the physical layout. Its really hood terminology. If youre not from the area then you might not get it. Since you dont know,I think the area youre intrested in is,like I said,Oak Cliff and its areas.

  3. Generally, I would say YES...BUT "south dallas" may need some clarification:

I think of "South Dallas" as the area south of Interstate 30-like the Oak Cliff/Kessler Park. SOME parts of Oak Cliff are pretty "urban" (large % of population is fairly young, slightly lower income than other areas of Dallas, Hispanic or Black). But SOME parts of OakCliff feature multi-million dollar homes on an 18 hole golf course! Kessler Park is an adjacent neighborhood, similar to Oak Cliff, but a bit more affluent. Another difference: Kessler Park is fast becoming a hot-spot within the g*y community. Expect a small, but growing, population of mostly committed g*y couples. Real estate/lease prices in both neighborhoods have increased dramatically over the past few years.

"South Dallas" could also mean the area 20-30min south of downtown. This area, around Duncanville, has a more suburban feel. (i.e. less "Dallas-y"/pretentious, more working class/blue collar). Other than that, I'm not real familiar with this area.

Finally, I've found that "South Dallas" is occasionally used to mean "not North Dallas". I live in the OakLawn area, near Love Field, and do not consider this "south dallas", but some of my friends who live north of 635 refer to this area as "south dallas".

One thing about Dallas, in general, that I've always thought was kinda weird/funny: You can be driving through a ROUGH neighborhood (I mean, nothin' but liquor stores w/ bars on the windows!) one minute, and 2 blocks down the road, you're surrounded by McMansions and soccer moms driving Hummers! Go figure!

The best is waterview, it has the nicest houses and is the safest. this area is like 10-20 min from center of dallas.
