Captain of the South Korean football team, Park Ji-Sung, has officially called time on his International career, as confirmed by the National side’s coach, Cho Kwang-Rae.
The Manchester United midfielder wasn’t the only one who hanged up his boots, as Lee Young-Pyo also ended his International career, following South Korea’s 3-2 win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Uzbekistan-c3037 in the Asian Cup 3rd place match.
"Two players from our team, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Park-Ji-Sung-c29147 and Lee Young-Pyo, are retiring today from international football. They've done a remarkable job for the prosperity of Korean football. It would be better if I could retain both of them
in the national team but other players have done an excellent job," stated the National team coach.
Park is a national star and his 100th cap for the side came against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Japan-c2928 in the Asian Cup semi-finals. The 29-year-old’s first match in a South Korean shirt came in 2000 in an Asian Cup qualifier and he is currently
ranked 8th in the all-time appearance list for his national side. The manager confirmed that the only reason Park didn’t participate in the 3rd place fixture was to give him rest and not risk injury. Park played two back-to-back extra
time games for the national side and was therefore left out for this game in an attempt to keep him injury free for his club career at Man United.
Park has been instrumental for South Korea’s success in the Asian Cup and brings a lot of energy, pace and class to the game. His services were missed at Man United, who, despite managing well without him, would want nothing more
than to have him back.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cha-Du-Ri-c8739 remains the only player in the outfit who participated in the 2002 World Cup,
where South Korea managed to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.
Park Ji-Sung would return to Manchester this week, where the medical team will determine whether the player will be available for the weekend fixture. Park predicted that his side would remain on top of the Premier League table
by the time he comes back, and United currently are 5 points above 2nd placed Arsenal.
