South Korea coach criticises Sunderland striker Ji Dong-won for poor fitness
Cho Kwange-Rae, the South Korean coach, criticised the young striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ji-Dong-Won-c18522 for having poor physical condition. The 20-year-old signed with English Premier League side Sunderland in the summer transfer window of 2011 or an undisclosed fee on a three
year deal.
Dong-won has gone on to make eight appearances for the Black Cats since joining the side in the summer, with his only goal coming against the defeat to Premier League giants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. However, according to Kwange-Rae, the player is in bad condition.
Cho Kwange-Rae said in an interview:
“Ji's condition was really bad.
He was not good in training so I considered not to play him and he was worse in the match than I thought. So I had to replace him at half-time.”
Dong-won was taken off at half-time by the South Korean manager, who felt the player was not at his best, as his side went on to register a 2-0 win over the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 in the international week. It was his poor performance and lack of fitness
that was the apparent cause.
The South Korea national team manager revealed the player was not his former self and had become rather poor at the timing of his shots, which had rendered him useless as a forward. This was the reason Kwange-Rae gave for taking Dong-won off at half-time.
He revealed:
“His balance is off and his shooting timing is slow. I think he's physically really poor now.”
Dong-won began his career as a footballer with a local side Gwangyan Jecheol High School, after which he left for English side Reading for a short while, before returning to his boyhood club. The main reason for his return was the fact that he was not given
any play time at the English club.
He began his senior professional career with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chunnam-Dragons-c38805 in the 2010-2011 season, making 33 appearances and scoring 10 goals before catching the eye of Sunderland manager Steve Bruce, who signed him in the then upcoming winter transfer window.
The South Korea international, who has represented his country at various levels, has since then however, failed to impress.
