South Korea has entered into the semi-final by beating Malaysia with a 3-2 margin, in the quarter-final of the Sudirman Cup 2011, at Qingdao, China, on Thursday, May 26.
Malaysia has never made it to the finals of this mixed team championship in the entire history of the event. The Malaysian shuttlers, despite putting up a great show, failed to win the match against the Koreans, who played a better game in the final fight.
In the opening fight in the Mixed Doubles category, the Korean couple of Ha Jung Eun and Ko Sung Hyun defeated the Malaysian duo of Koo Kien Keat and Chin Eei h*i in straight- sets, with a 17-21 and 17-21 score.
Malaysia made a strong comeback in the second fight, where the Men’s Singles World Number One, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia crushed Park Sung Hwan of Korea, by a margin of 21-18 and 21-14.
In the following battle of Men’s Doubles, Malaysia’s Tan Boon Heong and Hoon Thien How proved their worth against the top Korean pair of Jung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae by playing superb badminton in three sets with a 21-15, 14-21 and 21-14 score.
After the match, Tan Boon said, “We started well in the rubber game and controlled well in the first three rallies and this helped us to stay focused throughout the match.”
In the battle of Women’s Singles, Youn Joo Bae of Korea proved that she is far better than Jing Yi Tee of Malaysia and finished the fight in straight games with the score of 21-11 and 21-11.
In the last fight of the match, Chin Eei h*i and Wong Pei Tty of Malaysia bowed down to the Korean pair of Jung Eun Ha and Min Kung Kim in a three-set match with a 19-21, 21-16 and 21-10 margin.
After the match, dejected Chin Eei said, “We beat this Korean pair in the semi-finals of the China Open in 2008. We had the confidence but we did not take our chances well today. We should have finished them off in straight games.”
The South Korean squad will be up against the top guns of China in the semi-final showdown on Saturday, May 28.
