South Korean Jenny romps into share of third position in second round of Mizuno Classic
South Korean Jenny Shin performed well in the second round of the Mizuno Classic 2012, as she posted a 69 to improve her position on the leaderboard.
According to the second-round results that were yet to be completed, Jenny clobbered her way into a share of third position after she picked up pace on Saturday.
She got off to a steady start on Friday as she shot a 71. But the score was not big enough to help her stand inside the top 10. She stood tied for the 19th position at the end of
the opening day.
Jenny started the second round with confidence as she parred the first hole, and drained a birdie on the par-4 second. Maintaining accuracy on the greens, she rattled off another birdie on
the fourth hole.
Although confident following a solid start, the South Korean golfer looked a little shaky on the greens of par-4 6th, as she missed a par-putt and ended up registering her first
bogey.
However, she redressed it by shooting her third birdie on the next hole, brining her front-nine score to a 34.
On the back nine, the young gun kept the pressure intact on rivals by carding two birdies, but also had to suffer a bogey on the trickiest par-3 11th.
South Korean stars have performed well in the first two rounds, with Jiyai Shin taking the first-round lead.
Despite good crowd support and a course that suits most of the contenders’ playing style, windy conditions kept wreaking havoc on the greens and fairways.
Shin was one of the players to bear the brunt of troubling winds, as she lost her lead in the second round.
“The wind made it so different today, especially on No. 6 the long par-4. Yesterday, I hit a 3-hybrid but today I hit a 3-wood. This wind is blowing so hard. You just have to be careful with
each shot every time,” Shin said at the end of the first round on Friday.
“The other players played really well today with this wind though. Hopefully the next two days the weather will be much better than today and we can make lots more birdies”.
