South Korean Ji-yai Shin performs well at Ohio
South Korean Ji-yai Shin exhibited a solid performance in the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012, as she finished tied for the seventh position after registering an overall score of 274.
Shin kicked off the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament at Highland Meadows Golf Club, Ohio in impressive style and battled hard against her rivals.
The roster of Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012 proved stronger than Shin had thought, but she stayed calm and did not make too many sloppy strokes.
Key players who participated in the tournament included Stacy Lewis, Brittany Lincicome, current world number one Yani Tseng, Suzann Pettersen, Angela Stanford, Natalie Gulbis, Brittany Lang, Michelle Wie, Cristie Kerr, Jennie Lee, So Yeon Ryu, Chella Choi, Na Yeon Choi, Inbee Park, Mika Miyazato, Ai Miyazato, Beatriz Recari, Sandra Gal and Hee Kyung Seo.
Although not among the favourite contenders for the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012, Shin displayed a better-than-expected performance and proved her critics wrong.
Commentators said that the South Korean golfer could not keep the momentum going in the fourth round and ended up recording a 72. However, she looked stunning on the third day as she posted a 66 to strengthen her position on the leaderboard.
She carded three bogeys and two birdies in the fourth round, which derailed her taking a toll on her overall position on the leaderboard.
However, in the third round, she displayed a flawless performance because she avoided carding any bogey and shot five birdies.
Commentators said that despite not being among the hot favourites for the prestigious LPGA event, the young prodigy performed well.
The weather conditions, which played havoc in the first two days, remained relatively calm on Saturday as the rain had swept through a night before.
“Today was another wet day, so I just tried to keep focused, do not make the bogey. I made five birdies today. My shot was getting better than yesterday. So I play much easier today,” Shin said.
When asked how she is feeling after battling multiple health issues, the LPGA titan said that she is fine now, but full recovery is yet to be seen. “It's not hundred percent, but I think it's good enough. I really happy to come back to play this tournament because we missed it last year”.
