South Korea’s Na Yeon Choi defends her title successfully
The fields of South Korea rang with the aura of victory as Na Yeon Choi defended her title at the LPGA Hana Bank Championship.
The female golfer carded a successful 69 at the last round of the tournament and thus a 2 shot lead on the leader board. The lead was attained after she carded a 3 under to front Vicky Hurst.
The South Korea native grabbed her second win of the year from this tournament and ended the championship with an overall 10 under at the Sky 72 Golf Club's Ocean Course. This is Choi’s 4th win in two years.
Along with the South Korean, one Canadian, Alena Sharp finished her game while holding a 71 on her score card. The female golfer from Hamilton stood 10 shots from the lead when Choi collected a dollar amount of US $270,000 as the winner of the tournament.
Choi now stands at the money list with a total amount of $ 1,742,028.
According to the South Korean, she is very satisfied with the way this tournament turned out to be.
"I am pleased to grab my title back," said Choi.
The 69 carder holds the record of being one of the playoff winners in the month of July at the Jamie Farr Classic. She carded a minus 10 after her three round score of 69 in her first and last round, whereas the second round witnessed her score of 68, the
lowest.
Talking about expectations and how she met them, Choi said that the fans expected me to win my title back and I had to live up to that expectation. She said that it was hard since for that she had to actually focus on every shot she played and that would
have only been possible if she bought everything out on the course. Choi said she stuck to her plan that eventually paid off in the long run.
Where Choi stuck to her earlier stated plan, Hurst stuck to her mom’s advice and finished her game with a 70 at second place. Hurst said that her mom had asked her to play a consistent and steady game. She said that she mostly focused on staying patient
at the match and thus moved forward collecting pars and birdies. Hurst believes she played a good game and is pretty much proud of herself.
Apart from Choi and Hurst, Song-Hee Kim carded second place with a 7 under. She was the second round leader and carded a 73. The second round leader has the record of holding 5 second place tournaments in her LPGA career.
According to Kim, she had a rather disappointed week but also believes that she played a good game.
“I think I gave my best”, Kim said.
