South Korea’s shuttlers set to meet top guns of China in the semi-final of the Sudirman Cup 2011
South Korea’s shuttlers will meet the top guns of China in the semi-final battle in the Sudirman Cup 2011, at Qingdao, China, on Saturday, May 28.
China defeated India, whereas, South Korea thrashed the Malaysian team in the quarter-finals of this mixed team championship on Thursday, May 26.
South Korea defeated Malaysia in a thrilling fight with a tight margin of 3-2. It was a superb fight between the two top nations in the world of Badminton. Malaysia clinched two points in the Men’s Singles and Men’s doubles categories, whereas, Korea grabbed
three points in the Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
On the other hand, China is the defending champion in this mixed team event, as the leading country in badminton world has clinched three consecutive titles of the Sudirman Cup. The Chinese shuttlers are looking for the fourth title in a row and Korea is
the only major hurdle in their way.
China has a slight advantage over Korea in the category of Men’s Singles, where Lin Dan will have an expected meeting against Park Sung Hwan. After the bad performance of the Women’s Singles of China including, Wang Shixian and Wang Xin, in their previous
matches, the Korean ladies are expected to put up a good show against the local players.
Manager of Korean squad, Sung Han Kook said, “I think both teams know each other so well. Many expected this match to be the final but the luck of the draw was not with us.”
The manager also added, “Lin Dan might have a slight edge in the men’s singles, but the other matches could go either way.”
He further said, “Their women’s singles have suffered two losses in three ties and this gives us hope that we can steal a point there. All three doubles can go either way and we will treat the match as if it is the final.”
The semi-final between South Korea and China will be a superb fight to watch out for, as both nations have strong shuttlers in their teams.
