South-Norwegian Climate?

I am wondering, in south Norway, what is the climate like? Does it start to snow in November and last until May (I hope so :p). How cold does it go in the winter, and how hot in the summer? Also, does the snow actually stay all winter, unlike in Scotland!!!!! Thanks! I really want to live somewhere that is cold (around -5 to -10 celcius, not like -30 lol), cloudy, and snowy for a good part of the year.

  1. erm yeh very snowy it is love.

  2. quite wet, you get the back tail of many british storms, but its a very nice place and it snows alot also. Just dont go to a town called Bergen, it rains 6 days out of 7

  3. You will not see that kind of snow along the coasts.  While it does tend to snow fairly often in the winter time, the first snows are usually in December, and the snow tends to come and go as the temperature fluctuates.  The temperatures usually fluctuate between 0 and -10, with the coldest weeks of the winter touching -20.  It doesn't often get colder than that.  The west coast tends to be cloudier with lots of rain, while the south coast usually gets a bit more sun.  Summer temperatures vary greatly with the weather but are typically around 15 in rainy weather and 20-25 with clear skies.  The highest summer temperatures peak around 30.

For colder temperatures and winter-long snow, you would be better off inland.  The mountainous ridge that divides eastern and western Norway is high enough that the inland temperatures are lower, and the area has more lasting snow.  However, the bigger cities are all along the coast, and the inland communities tend to be much, much smaller.

You might find this map helpful, which gives a general overview of the temperatures across the country:

You can see that the coastal regions are significantly warmer than the inland areas.
