South West and Great Western Trains?

Okay, so next week I am going on a long train journey and I thought it would be a good opportunity to get some work done. Does anybody know whether there are power points on the trains so I can charge my laptop?

  1. Almost all Great Westerns do and some South Wests. They do not always work though, you may have to change carriages to find one that does....

  2. FGWs recently refurbished High Density high speed trains have one power point for each pair of seats.

If you are going to the  Westcountry (which I presume you are if SWT and FGW are both options) then there are no powerpoints in standard on SWT's Class 159 fleet (though compare the standard of refurbishment between the companies and SWT are much better)

  3. South West Trains have power points on the trains that operate from London Waterloo to Portsmouth, Bournemouth,

Poole and Weymouth. On First Great Western the 125 and the few remaining Adlente trains have power points; these trains operate on routes from London Paddington to Reading,Swindon,Bath,Bristol,South Wales,Exeter, Plymouth , Penzance, and Cheltenham, as well as the majority of trains to Oxford, Great Malvern and Hereford; however some of the latter are operated by 3 car class 165/6 trains which have no power points

  4. There are, however not all of the services have this option, best to call the companies help lines and check if you really need to charge your laptop.

  5. Some do some don't. With the state of Great Western Trains these days what with lateness and cancellations you may have to work on the platform.

  6. According to the site below, all First Great Western trains have power points, but no mention is made of  South West trains. Have a good journey!
