South Western Districts v Eastern Province - CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition – Day 1 – Live Score and Update
Eastern Province 360 v South Western Districts 25/2 (11.0 ov) - South Western Districts trail by 335 runs with 8 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
The first day of play between South Western Districts and Eastern Province in the CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition was a batting marvel for fans where they witnessed Eastern Province stagger a mammoth first innings score of 360 at Recreation Ground, Oudtshoorn.
Choosing to bat first, Eastern Province almost disappointed their fans when they lost their first wicket with only 11 on the board, as WE Bell, crumbled with only a run to his name.
Before the fielding side could actually gloat over their early success, they were ripped apart by PJ Furstenburg and KR Smuts as the two batsmen smashed remorseless shots all around the park.
The boundaries were backed by impressive running between the wickets that kept the fielders on their toes.
The batsmen exploited the conditions to take the score to 49 before Smuts became the next man to walk off the field after scoring 17 runs.
This wicket affected the scoring rate; however, Eastern Province knew they needed to maintain a steady flow of runs in order to keep the fielding side at bay.
With 69 runs on the scoreboard, Eastern Province saw Furstenburg getting trapped in front of stumps off McMillan. The batsman, however, had done is job by smacking 42 runs off 62 deliveries.
Skipper, MBA http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598, was not impressive today as he could score only four runs before finding his way off the field. At the time of this wicket, Eastern Province were sitting on 76 for four.
The batting collaboration between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-W-Jacobs-c41346 and AJN Price shattered their opposition as the two batsmen proved extremely dangerous and unforgiving.
Exhibiting their superiority, the batting duo hammered the score to 187 before Western Districts struck back by nabbing Price who fell on 46.
The arrival of LR Walters was another matter of concern for the fielders as his timing of the ball showed his dangerous intensions.
With http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jacobs-c65213 hammering 78, Walters 90 and S Gidana 40, Eastern Province achieved dominance by the end of the first day.
South Western Districts then lost two wickets as they put 25 runs on the board before the end of the day’s play.
