South Western Districts v Eastern Province - CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition - Day 2 – Live Score and Update
Eastern Province 360 v South Western Districts 129 & 248/4 (f/o) (69.0 ov) - South Western Districts lead by 17 runs with 6 wickets remaining
On the second day of the three-day CSA Provincial Competition, South Western Districts were forced to follow on after they crumbled on a first innings tally of 129 in response to Eastern Province’s first innings score of 360, at Recreation Ground, Oudtshoorn.
At stumps, Districts had secured a lead by 17 runs with six wickets in hand; however, with both teams giving their best the final day is expected to see a conclusive result.
Eastern Province should win the game by bowling out their opposition on a gettable total before lunch on Saturday.
South Western Districts, who had scored just 25 runs for the loss of two wickets a day earlier, resumed their innings on Friday with RD McMillan and C Jonker aiming to put their side in a challenging position.
However, the partnership failed to prosper as with 35 on the board, Jonker became the first casualty of the day as he was removed by Bell for five.
It was then time for GN Addicott to come in the middle and get his side towards a respectable total.
The partnership between McMillan and Addicott took the score to 75, before the latter perished after hammering 24.
It was then a complete wreck for South Western Districts as the batting side got incinerated by the fantastic bowling it faced.
Bell was unplayable as he nabbed seven wickets by the end of the innings to enforce follow-on. Meanwhile, from Districts, McMillan was the best batsman for his 61 runs.
Aiming to make amends, Districts got off to a flier in their second innings with openers LL Mnyanda and RD McMillan providing a stand of 122, before the fielding side saw the back of McMillan for 69.
Next to go was AP McLaren, who failed again with only three runs to his name. C Jonker was disappointing, failing to get off the mark this time.
Mnyanda was the last batsman to fall after he scored 70 runs before GN Addicott and W Lategan took charge and stayed unbeaten on 40 and 60 runs, as the side ended the day on 248 in their second innings.
