KwaZulu-Natal 227 v South Western Districts 147/3 (45.0 ov) - South Western Districts trail by 80 runs with 7 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
The South Western Districts bowlers had an eventful first day against KwaZulu-Natal as they restricted their opponents on a meagre score of 227 before the end of the day at Recreation Ground, Oudtshoorn.
South Western Districts then managed to post 147 runs for the loss of three wickets as they trail by 80 runs with 7 wickets remaining in the 1st innings.
Earlier, KwaZulu-Natal, who chose to bat, had a terrible start as they lost their first wicket on the second delivery of the day without a run on the board.
They then tasted another disappointment by losing their second wicket when N Govender was caught by Stuurman after scoring only four runs.
Number-three batsman, MG Alexander, was then the next to walk off the field as he was given lbw after scoring only 16 runs.
This was not going well for the batting side as they were losing just too many wickets without troubling their opponents.
Finally the fourth-wicket partnership between M Ramsaroop and CS Delport halted the bowling onslaught as the two batsmen, while avoiding too many risks, managed to lead their side towards 73 runs before the departure of CS Delport, who was dismissed by Fojela after belting 31 runs off 48 deliveries.
On the last delivery of the same over, the bowler removed M Ramsaroop, who went back with a knock of 18 to his name.
R Frylinck and KA Maharaj were then the next to forge a resistance against South Western Districts, as the two batsmen led their side to 107 runs.
Frylinck then became the sixth wicket of the day, getting run out after jabbing 23 runs.
With Maharaj taking charge, SP Ramdin (2) was the next batsman to fall, leaving his side on 127 runs.
Maharaj’s 103 was the highlight of this innings as he played a crucial role in helping his team pile a decent score on the board.
