  1. Take some warm clothes as the weather has just taken a turn for the worst.Southside's fine.Good pubs, restaurants, clubs.Everything is dear though.

  2. If your host family live near the sea on the southside, chances are that they have a very nice home. Apart from the strands, the other main benefit of the south coastal strip is the DART, Dublin's efficient electric train service. If you're living in Blackrock or Dun Laoghaire, it only takes 20/30 minutes to get to the centre of Dublin.

There are many nice parks in the vicinity and you have to visit Vico Road between Dalkey and Killiney to see where the wealthy people of Dublin live (including Bono of U2).

For more insider information click around on my web site below - this particular page includes thumbnail photos of Dun Laoghaire (click to see larger image):

  3. as far as i know the south side is the  upper-class side...?

not really my kind of place nor a place for my kind of people.

  4. I go to Dublin 2 or 3 times a year,my wife goes oftener. We stay in the south side and always enjoy our stay.

Thanks guys for the answers with all the info on places I haven't visited.

    Enjoy your stay.

  5. It really depends on where you are staying.. although as mentioned above the DART will bring you into the city centre where you can bus it to everywhere.

Dont mind anyone who says its an upper class area, Thats more of a Dublin thing to slag someone over!!

You'll love Dublin, its a great city. There's plenty of pubs, clubs, musuems.... whatever you are into you will find.

    Have fun!

  6. That part of the city is really nice.  It is easy to get to the city centre, because many of those suburbs that are south coastal are serviced by the DART (train that connects the coastal suburbs to the city centre).  South Dublin suburbs near the beach include: Sandymount, Blackrock, Seapointe, Dun Laoghaire, Glenageary, Shankill, Bray, and Greystones.  Dun Laoghaire (Dun Leary) is a very nice suburb, and has many amenities (shopping centre, night life, cinema) that the city centre offers.  Dun Laoghaire is also a ferry port.  Bray is a nice wee place too.  It is popular in the summer.

  7. shopping and the zoo ,pubs are great (dont know what age u are)

o connell street go to pennies great prices

loads of second hand shops for great bargains ,

look for local concerts im sure the host family will help you keep busy

  8. Hi,Im from Dublin ( southside)

Dublin is  a nice city and the southside is a nice area, and safe.

  9. We just returned from  Ireland.  Dublin is great

very busy all the time. Lots  to see and experience. Street people entertaining, Great sightseeing.  We stayed 3 weeks and mostly in the south of Ireland Schull, our Mothers birthplace.  But we did visit Dublin.  make sure you take a lot of warm clothes and rain gear. It was very chilly in July while we were there.

Our grandparents were born in the south of Dublin. It is a Wonderful place to visit. Take hundreds of pictures you will never forget your trip.  Have a great time
