Southampton FC have signed defender Nathaniel Clyne from Crystal Palace on a four year deal.
The 21-year old has reportedly penned a deal with the Saints, tying him up with the Premier League’s newcomers until 2016. Even though he had served out his stipulated contract with the Eagles, the Championship outfit are still entitled to receive a training
compensation fee for the English footballer.
Currently, both the sides are carrying out meetings in order to finalize the player’s compensation fee. In the event that they fail to reach to an agreement, an independent tribunal will then broker a deal between them.
The talented defender made his debut for Palace in October 2008. Earlier in February 2010, he then received an offer from Wolverhampton Wanderers which he turned down.
During the 2010/11 season, Clyne featured in all of the Eagles games during the campaign, setting the record of becoming the youngest player to achieve the feat in the Championship. Consequently, he was awarded with Crystal Palace’s Player of the Year accolade.
Besides that, the player has also represented http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 at the Under 19 and Under 21 levels.
Following the completion of his move, Clyne issued a statement on the club’s official website.
“I'm overwhelmed, really. As soon as I heard that Southampton were in for me, I was happy and I knew that this was the place where I could try to improve my football, further my career and get a chance to play in the Premier League.”
The defender revealed that he met his new boss, Nigel Adkins who underlined his ambition of securing a place in the Europa League in the coming season. He also added that given the vast quantity of young talent in the squad and the presence of some seasoned
players, Southampton can go on and upstage some of the top teams in the league.
“The gaffer told me that they would want to be pushing for European football. We've got good players here - a bunch of good, young talented players who are destined for the top, so I don't see why we can't do it.”
