Southampton United went on to host Newcastle United as the newly promoted side were looking to try and get something out of the game, which might aid their pursuit of avoiding the drop at the end of the season.
Going into the game, Newcastle weren’t in seemingly the best form of their Premier League career, as the team had gone on to produce a series of poor results in recent weeks.
The match kicked off in rather shocking manner, as Newcastle seemed to be all over the place. Southampton were looking to have a ball on the pitch, with the visiting side not being able to do much to stop them.
The home side came close to scoring on a number of occasions early on, with them even going on to hit the post with one chance that they created. However, following that pressure, it wasn’t long before they actually went on to score.
In the 34th minute of the game, Southampton broke the dead lock, as they scored the opener.
Krul came out to sweep the ball, but ended up finding himself well out of position. Clyne tired to take a pop at goal from distance, but saw his effort get cleared away. However, the ball went on to fall to Ramirez, who showed great composure, as he went
on to cross the ball to Lallana, who sent the ball into the back of the net.
With Krul not being in the most ideal of situations, it was a whole lot easier for the team to score.
In the second half, of the game, Southampton continued from where they left off as they took the game to Newcastle once again.
As was the case in the first half, Southampton went on to create a number of chances before they finally went on to find the back of the net.
In the 60th minute of the game, Krul went on to spill a cross and Ramirez darted in to slide the ball into the net. Despite the move being rather brilliant in the build up, the goal only came as a result of some poor keeping from Krul.
As a result of that second goal, Southampton went on to claim all three points from the game, as they sailed their way out of the relegation zone.
