Southeastern Conference Women’s Golf Championship
Austin Ernst of the LSU Lady Tigers has put in a well formed performance to assist in bringing her team to the higher ranks.
Even after overnight storms, which caused the match a 15 minute delay, and, left the course much cooler and windier, only two teams broke par.
Prior to Ernsts’ feat the LSU Lady Tigers were ranked no.8 at the Southeastern Conference Women’s Golf Championship, now the team is holding onto third position.
Ernst played a birdie on the 15th hole, which was followed up by an eagle on the long 16th making the par-5 seem all too easy.
Over all it culminated into a 1-under par round of 71 for Ernst as well as a five place upgrade for the team. The team maintained their position after 36 holes at the Auburn University Club in Yarbrough Farms.
Their qualification into the top three teams also implies that the Lady Tigers will take part in the final leg of the game. Auburn and Alabama being the other two leaders.
LSU ended the day with a 12-over 300 on the par-72 course during the play five, count four format. On the second day they stood 11 over par 587.
Auburn, the leader for the first round ranking 17, shot a 2-over 290 and stands at 3-under par 573. Second best of the day, Alabama, lies nine shots behind Auburn and moved into the top three with a 3-over round of 291.
The Crimson Tide carding in a 6-over 582, stays ahead of LSU by five strokes. An equal gap of five strokes behind LSU is Tennessee at 17-over 593 closely followed by Arkansas in fifth place with 594.
In the individual competition Ernst is tied for fifth after having made even par 144 that moved her up from 19th since Friday. In the lead of the individual competition is Erica Popson of Tennessee, holding the no.1 spot
for the second day straight standing at four-under 140.
