Southeastern Saddle Club sponsored Horse show to assist 9-year-old leukaemia victim Colby Alred
Colby is a nine-year-old child who was diagnosed for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia on the 31st of August. The doctors have told his parents that the child can be treated for the disease for up to three years. Talking
to the correspondents, Colby’s mother Tameka Farris said that the child has to be taken to Birmingham every Monday for treatment. He is meanwhile helped with his lessons on Tuesday and Thursday evenings so that he can make up for the missed classes at Owens
Elementary School. His mother also said that Colby is determined to be in remission.
The South-eastern Saddle Club will be funding a horse show event on Saturday to help the family financially for their child’s expensive treatment. The event will be taking place at 2 pm at the Sheriff’s Rodeo Arena off Alabama
99.
The admission ticket of the event for adults is $5. Children of age 12 and below will be admitted free to the event. Barrel racing, gaited performance, kid’s horseback rides, youth lead line, Western pleasure, walk-trot and a saddle
giveaway will all be a part of the horse show event.
The organizer of the event for the Saddle Club is Ken Wilson. Talking to the sports correspondents, he said, “I have had responses from everywhere since I sent out the flyer all over North Alabama and South Tennessee.”
He was very pleased with the response, he said, since he was receiving emails in bulk from people from all walks of life while he had sent the flyers mainly to the saddle and horse clubs. He also added that people were interested
to see and compete in the event.
“What will draw a lot of people are the barrel racing and pole racing timed events”, said Ken Wilson.
Elaborating on the event, he also said that it is customary of saddle and horse clubs to donate money to those in need in the form of charity. He also revealed that he was unaware of Colby’s condition until he read about the victim
in The News Courier about a month back.
On his Cross Key Road farm, Ken Wilson has about 14 recorded Tennessee Walking Horses.
As for the event, the organizer said, “We have got plenty of people interested in participating, but now we need the people of Athens and Limestone County to come out and support us at the show that begins at 2 pm.”
