Question:

Southern Caribbean Cruise Questions?

We are looking about what to do at various ports on a southern caribbean cruise. Our ports of call are Aruba, Caracao, St. Maarten, St. Thomas, and Puerto Rico. We definitely enjoy nature. So, we were thinking about doing a long nature hike, snorkeling, maybe some biking. Any advice for those types of activities at these ports?

  1. Try the rainforest out side San Juan and snorkel on the others.  St Thomas has 3 great spots.  Megans Bay for swimming, Cokie Bay for snorkeling but Grand Trunk Bay on St John's has the best of both with an underwater trail and it is SO beautiful.  I know this sounds weird but the place I like on St Martin is called Sunset Beach Bar.  The beach is right at the end of the airport so you can swim and snorkel with 747's right over top of you.  The bar has a radio to pick up air traffic control and the food, music and beer are affordable and fun.  Have a great time.

  2. Go to cruisecritic.com and post your questions there. Lots of experienced cruisers who love to share what they know.

  3. In Curacao, you will find several places where nature hikes and biking trails. Most of the snorkeling sites are just off the beaches, so easy access to most of them. Horse back riding is available at some places as well.

Curacao (and Aruba) get much less rain then islands like St Martin and other islands further north, so do expect dry air, and some desert like part of the island, which are still filled with life and stuff to see.

Here are a few links to look over from Curacao.
