Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s volleyball team gets Leah Johnson as new head coach
There has been a recent change in the coaching line-up of the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s volleyball team. The team now has a new head coach in the shape of Leah Johnson.
John was first the assistant coach but his position has now been upgraded in the light of his calibre and skill.
Johnson has taken the place of coach Todd Gober. Gober had been performing his duties as the head coach of SIUE for the past 10 years now. Gober has left the Cougars with an impressive record both in the overall season as well as in the conference play.
The number of victories that the Cougars have been able to accomplish under Gober’s regime amount to be 205. They have earned themselves these wins at the expense of suffering 112 defeats in all. If the conference statistics of the Cougars under Gober’s
guidance are looked at, then it shows an even more impressive record.
The number of times that the Cougars have tallied victories in the Great Lakes Valley Conference is 100. They have been able to register these wins against suffering a commendably low number of losses at a figure of 15.
Previously, Johnson was associated with Notre Dame where she was responsible for numerous important functions of the volleyball team. She dealt with all the aspects of the implementation of practice plans and training of the players. These training sessions
were based on film oriented learning where the players got the chance to improve their game by watching the clips of their opponents as well as themselves.
Other than that, Johnson was also in charge of keeping an eye out for the tactics undertaken by each opposing team so that counter tactics could be devised against them while playing in the future.
The SIUE team is thrilled to have Johnson on board with them and have good expectations associated with the new head coach.
“Leah Johnson brings everything that we were looking for in a head coach,” SIUE Athletics Director Brad Hewitt said. “She is very organized and has a plan of how to succeed at SIUE. She shares our vision of success on the floor and in the classroom.”
