Question:

Southern Portion of the Mississppi River Weather?

Since my last question was not detailed enough, I am wondering what the weather on, I don't know, the eastern side of the last 200 miles of the river is like in general. A spring/summer/fall/winter very generalized break down would be greatly appreciated. And does this portion of the Mississippi get any wind?

I am doing a environmental science project, and we have to make ourselves completely sustainable off of the electric grid with 20 acres, and $125,000 dollars.

Any other ideas would be great

Thank You

  1. It's hot as balls

  2. The southern part of MS gets alot of flare up rain showers, meaning they blown in off the gulf and rains for about 20 mins and then becomes exrememly humid.

Mississippi was also devastated by Hurricane Katrina as well as many other Gulf tropical storms.

They receive wind gusts at times up to 100mph during a storm but basically the farther away you get from the coast the more arid the weather becomes.

MS also has quite a bit of low lying land which causes it to be swampy in certain areas in it southern regions.  With all the water and humid air also comes a larger share of mosquitos.

Seasons do not really have a definite change per say.  As it never freezes on a regular basis or for a long period of time.  The temperature is very agreeable year round.  Summer temperatures can range from the high 80's to over 100, with sparse rainfall in the drought years and flooding in the rainy seasons.

Fall is just a gradual change, temps get cooler 60's during the day 40's at night.  The trees turn but do not necessarily loose their foilage.  Winter is basically Fall weather, just with less sunlight.  There is no snow unless it is a freak of nature.

Spring comes earlier in the southern part of the state as it has not frozen up.  Sap begins to run earlier, therefore making the blooming season appear the end of march and full bloom in april.

The biggest problems that area seems to have is from one extreme to the other.  Its either very rainy and floods or has an almost unbarable aird heat.

Hurricanes, tropical storms and tornados are the biggest threats of that area.

I hope this helps and Good Luck  Jackie
