Southern Regional and Fair Lawn to meet in State Championship final – Volleyball news
Southern Regional High School boys volleyball team is up against Fair Lawn in the State final that will be played today at South Brunswick High School shortly.
Southern Regional will be entering the courts with a lot of confidence as they have bagged the State Championship two times previously. However, that does not mean that Southern should underestimate their rivals or have too much confidence in their skills.
This is because Fair Lawn has an impressive overall season record and they will be coming into the finals with an equal chance to make a win. The number of times that Fair Lawn has been able to earn themselves a win total to be 37. These victories have been
bagged at the cost of incurring only two losses.
As opposed to the performance statistics of Fair Lawn, the Rams have secured a total of 31 wins. However, they have suffered seven losses so far, while getting a tie once. Two of the seven defeats that the Rams have suffered were handed out to them by Fair
Lawn. The Rams will be trying all their best not to suffer their eighth defeat at the hands of Fair Lawn as well.
"We've been smelling it for three months," said Southern coach Eric Maxwell, who is in his 12th season. "The bottom line is my guys believe they will win it again. We have to play with confidence. We've believed all along we can win the whole thing again."
The following players will be worth watching out for on the line up of the Rams including Ryan Logue, Chris Miglin and Steve Hodgson. Logue is a senior on the team and has the highest number of kills among the Rams at 238. Other than that, Logue has been
able to register an average that shows 8.1 digs per game.
On the Fair Lawn lineup, the player to most be aware of is Mike Gesicki. According to Southern coach Eric Maxwell, Gesicki can be a stimulant when things are going downhill for his team and has the ability to turn things around at the most crucial moments.
