Southern Rocks have collapsed on 150 against Mid West Rhinos in the first innings on Day-1 of the ongoing four-day match at Masvingo, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045, on Monday, October 3, 2011.
The Rocks’ captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alester-Maregwede-c43107, chose to bat first after winning the toss, expecting his batsmen to post a massive total on the board.
Yet, his decision turned out to be an incorrect move when both Southern openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611 Kaia, lost their wickets without reaching double figures.
That imposed serious pressure on the batting side but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richmond-Mutumbami-c85399, got out
after collecting nine and one respectively.
The only notable partnership of the innings was the 62-run stand between Chibhabha and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robertson-Chinyengetere-c86288. Both batsmen played outstandingly, ran well between the wickets and took full advantage of poor deliveries.
The partnership broke up when Chibhabha gave away his wicket after smashing a classy innings of 74 runs despite the fact that he batted at a strike rate of under-50.
After his fall, nobody could resist against the quality bowling by the Rhinos. Chinyengetere, who stayed at the crease for 110 minutes, added 18 runs to the total before losing his wicket to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Chinouya-c1951.
In the late order, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hilary-Matanga-c63176 returned to the dressing tom after contributing three and one respectively.
As a result of an ordinary performance by the batting department, the Sothern side was all out on 150 after 68.4.
From Mid West bowling department, Chinouya led the party and claimed a five wicket-haul. Simon Mugava displayed an equally good show with the ball and grabbed four wickets while Neville Madziva returned with a scalp to his credit.
After restricting the Rocks to a paltry total, The Rhinos are aiming to pile up a big total and inflict pressure on the opposition.
However, it will not be a child’s play for them, as the Southern side has a fine bowling attack.
