The Mid West Rhinos maintained a dominant stance and kept the Southern Rocks in line on the first day of their ongoing first-class match in the Logan Cup, bowling the Rocks out for 149 before going on to reach 98 runs at the expense of one wicket at the
Masvingo Sports Club on November 6.
The Rhinos won the toss and chose to field first, following the decision up with a focused bowling attack, led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Chinouya-c1951 (12-1-30-5), with Richard Muzhange (11.3-3-29-2) and Neville Madziva (13-2-44-2) bringing up the rear.
The Rocks put forth an insipid batting performance with only four batsmen managing to register double-digit individual scores. Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/EC-Rainsford-c1415 in the 5th over, and while
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 it out at the crease for longer, their partnership yielded only 23 runs, after which Slater was snapped up by Chinouya, and Maregwede by Muzhange.
At 45 for 3, the Rocks’ chances were beginning to look bleak, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richmond-Mutumbami-c85399 (45) made a brave attempt to get their team back on track. The two batsmen set up a 60-run partnership for the 4th
wicket, which got the Rocks up to 105 by the 32nd over. However, from there onwards, it was a downhill slide for the team.
