http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mid-West-Rhinos-c816 – Logan Cup – Match Update
The Mid West Rhinos’ http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Chinouya-c1951 and Ed Rainsford played a vital role in bowling out the Southern Rocks for paltry scores in their Logan Cup match, enabling their side to claim victory by an innings and 92 runs at the Masvingo Sports Club during their
first-class match played from November 6 to 8.
The match commenced with the Rhinos winning the toss and choosing to field first. Their bowling attack then proceeded to launch an intense assault, with all 4 bowlers managing to claim at least one wicket each, while Chinouya (12-1-30-5) led the attack,
followed by Richard Muzhange (11.3-3-29-2) and Neville Madziva (13-2-44-2).
Only four of the Rocks’ batsmen – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richmond-Mutumbami-c85399 (45) – managed to contribute double-digit scores. The rest remained insipid, and the Rocks found themselves bowled
for a meagre first innings total of 149 on day 1.
The Rhinos, on the other hand, put forth a solid performance during their first innings, and despite the efforts of Cuthbert Musoko (22-5-63-4), Rocks’ skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611 Kaia (9-2-46-2), the team managed to post a daunting total
on the board.
The innings hinged largely on the performances of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MA-Vermeulen-c1872
(33), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sibanda-c2740 (28), and Madziva (23*) also contributed small scores. On day 2, the Rhinos declared at 398.
The Rocks were not able to pick themselves up, and continued in the lacklustre vein in which they had begun. Michael Chinouya (16-4-46-5) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/EC-Rainsford-c1415 (14.1-4-44-4) launched a ruthless assault which ended the game a day early, with the Rocks powerless
to resist.
Once again, Mutumbami was the top-scorer for the team with an industrious 40, but none of the batsmen were able to convert their starts into substantial scores. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TN-Garwe-c2695 (38) and Peter Burgoyne (29) remained the only other batsmen who made credible attempts
to salvage the team’s innings.
The rest remained spiritless, with three batsmen –Kaia, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tendai-Chisoro-c2655, and Panyangara – all dismissed on duck, and November 8 saw the Rocks all out at 157, with the Rhinos going on to claim victory by an innings and 92 runs.
