Southern Rocks v Mid West Rhinos – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 One-Day Competition – Match Recap
Batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Southern-Rocks-c845 in the ongoing Zimbabwe One-Day Competition, at the Masvingo Sports Club on October
10.
The Rocks won the toss and elected to field first, but despite the efforts of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tawanda-Mupariwa-c92913 (7-0-71-2), Sibanda proved difficult to subdue, and almost single-handedly propelled the team to a final total of 330 by the end of
50 overs.
Sibanda remained the top-scorer of the match, smashing 190 off 157, and although he remained firm at the crease, was initially unable to find any effective batsmen to partner with. Vitori trapped http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MA-Vermeulen-c1872 lbw on duck in the second over, and followed
it up by dismissing both wicketkeeper skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Malcolm-Waller-c74039 on duck in the 4th over.
Steven Trenchard at number 5 appeared off to a good start, and managed to apply himself at the crease long enough for a 41-run partnership with Sibanda. However, he only contributed 5 runs off the 20 balls he faced, before the 13th over saw him
dismissed lbw by Mupariwa, leaving the team at 43 for 4.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tinashe-Panyangara-c94107 in the 39th over, but Sibanda powered on, going
on to set up a 61-run stand with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Remembrance-Nyathi-c84657 (14), which got the team up to 291.
Nyathi was dismissed by Mupariwa in the 46th over, and Sibanda followed in the very next, finally dislodged by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611 Kaia. However, the team was already on solid ground by this point, and the duo of Simon Mugava (17*) and Neville Madziva (14*) got
the Rhinos up to 330 by the end of 50 overs.
The Rhinos followed up their impressive batting display with an equally strong bowling performance. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waller-c95917 (7.1-0-29-4), Mugava (10-0-46-3), and Cremer (8-3-25-2) joined forces to ensure that the Rocks were all out by the 43rd over, at a final
total of 230.
The innings started off on a good note, with a steady 66-run stand between openers Roy Kaia (27) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alester-Maregwede-c43107 (31). However, Kaia found himself caught and bowled by Mugava in the 11th over, and Maregwede followed him back to the pavilion
in the very next over, trapped lbw by Cremer.
Wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Slater-c1141 (46), who then went on to set up a 70-run stand with Peter Burgoyne (43). However, both batsmen were dismissed in consecutive overs – the 33th and 34th
– followed by the departure of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bothwell-Chapungu-c1180 (2) in the 35th over.
From there onwards it was a downhill slide for the Rocks. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tendai-Chisoro-c2655 (31) attempted to keep the team moving forward, and established a 38-run stand with Mupariwa (7). However, both were sent packing in the 41st over – Mupariwa via run out,
and Chisoro off Waller. Skipper Panyangara (0) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TN-Garwe-c2695 (1) were both dismissed for paltry scores, and the Rocks were eventually cut off at 230, all out, with the Rhinos going on to claim a 100-run victory.
