Has anybody stayed in the Southern Spain area of Arcos de la Frontera??? Is it a nice area to stay in October? Can you get around the area in foot or would a rental car be necessary?

  1. Arcos de la Frontera is in quite a rural  area. I've been there once. Arcos is a very interesting town with lots of history. Walking around Arcos will be no problem, but going to other places nearby such as Sevilla, Cadiz or Jerez de la Frontera I would advise on hiring a car. The weather should be okay in October. Here on the coast we get fine warm weather into November some years.

If you would like car hire then the following link will give you access to a good company.

  2. Arcos de la Frontera is a lovely little town. It is on a hill, and some of the streets are rather steep, If you are good at hiking, you can do most of your visit on foot... (I needed a car myself!)  It is a nice place to visit, and the weather there is fairly warm most of the year... (tho' this year is rather wierd, we've had rain at a time of year when it isn't normal at all!).

The views from the Parador on the highest level of the town, are magnificent. The Parador itself is a lovely hotel to stay at, but there are several others... I went there for a wedding celebration and we all stayed at "Meson de la Molinera" on the outskirts of Arcos near the artificial lake...

  3. arcos de la frontera is a great off the track area w/ nearby neanderthal cave paintings, horseriding & hiking.  weather is variable in october -- warm but starting to cool--you can get sudden thunderstorms anytime of year.  buses go thru the area but a car would be better out there....you can also go to the "white villages" on the mountains nearby....there are some small hotels but a parador is always the best!!
