  1. Earthquake prediction is a science in it's infancy.  Earthquakes are predictable.  Various animals know when an earthquake is going to strike.  Stress on various parts of the earth's crust can be calculated, and the areas with the highest amounts of stress seem to be the most vulnerable.  In addition, the geologic history of the San Andreas fault in California can give us statistical information of the frequency of earthquakes in a particular region.  For instance, if my memory serves correctly, great earthquakes in the San Fransisco area happen on the frequency of every 80-100 years.  The last great earthquake in SF was 1906.  Now, you do the math.

If I were you I would spend some time on the United States Geological Survey (USGS) websites and find out what earthquake geologists predict for the area in which you reside.

When you ask, "what cities will feel it worst" this is a wide open question.  It depends on what time of day the earthquake strikes.  Will it be at noon, when all the kids are in school, and everyone is at work, or will it be at 3 am when everyone should be sleeping?  The areas with the highest population densities could be the worst hit, LA and SF for example.  When you talk of feel it worst, the question actually is "what will be the effect on humans".   A great earthquake could strike in Siberia and we might not hear much about it because it might not have a great effect on human life.

  2. when it happens it happens. i have lived here for many years and lived through A few quakes. that is one of the prices

    we pay for living here.

  3. There is no way to predict an earthquake.  If it is possible, we wouldn't have the Tsunami disaster two years ago and the China disaster now.

  4. I thought California already fell into the ocean.
