I just checked in online to fly southwest and there is a position number next to my boarding group. Does that number mean I have to line up in that order?

  1. Aubrey is correct!!!   Additionally, if you are in the A or B boarding group, you should be able to get either an aisle or window seat.

Last year, Southwest changed its boarding procedures, thank God!  When you arrive at the gate, you will see pillars with numbers on them

(1-5, 6-10, etc, etc).  Just line up with the pillar corresponding with your number and boarding group.  A's will line up first 1-60 and then B's, etc.

In the past, all boarding groups would line up parallel to each other.  This became a competition and us Type A's were always looking for an advantage.

The new procedure eliminates all schemes, so I can arrive late and still have my place in line.

    Have a safe trip!

  2. Yes, they give you a letter and a number.  For example A 37, that means when they call the A boarding group, they will make you line up according to that number, so you would be 37th in line in whatever group you are in.  It keeps it more orderly for boarding the plane.  I usually get around A20-25 and I never have a problem finding a seat.
