Sovereign Debt gets an entry in Darley July Cup – Horseracing news
Sovereign Debt is confirmed to take part in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket, which will be his first race over six furlongs in quite some time.
Revealing the plans of the quality challenger, trainer Michael Bell said, “We have decided to drop Sovereign Debt in trip and have a crack at the July Cup. The strong pace they usually have in the race will play to his strengths and fortune favours the brave. Hopefully Jamie (Spencer) can ride him unless he has other commitments.”
Bell’s trainee has been unable to deliver a strong result this year. He has finished as a runner up on a couple of times, but victories have not come his way since his Newmarket run in July last year. This is not a positive sign for him and he needs to make a massive improvement in order to get his confidence back.
At one point in his career, the four-year-old colt had registered four victories out of nine runs, which suggested that he was the one to watch out for. However, his formed dipped over the past year and his strike rate has fallen down.
The Irish stallion’s most recent outing was at the Royal Ascot, where he failed miserably. He entered the competition with a reasonable starting price of 16 to 1, but could only manage ninth place in the end. He will be looking for change of fortunes this time around and it will be good if Jamie partners him, as the pair has been successful in the past.
On the other hand, Fawzi Nass has also shared some good news with his fans, saying that his challenger Krypton Factor has recovered from the injury he picked up this year.
According to the seasoned trainer, “Krypton Factor looks well and is a lot fitter now. He needed the race at Royal Ascot as he had not run since March and he is the type of horse who needs a race or two to get to his top notch of fitness.”
The five-year-old gelding is heavily dependent on track conditions, so his camp would want the going to be good, if not firm.
