  1. It has to be in ratio with what your eating already; just one change to your diet isn't going to have a huge effect on weight loss.

Whole-soy derived products such as Tofu, Soy milk such as Bonsoy & Vitasoy, soy yoghurts etc etc are a good dairy alternative as soy is easier for your body to digest whilst having a slightly lower total fat content compared with full-cream dairy products whilst still maintaining an excellent overall nutrient profile compared to full-cream dairy products. (dairy products with extremely low-lipid profiles have been shown to be rather inactive in the synthesis of vitamins & minerals; hence why i don't believe they are as good as full-cream).

Replacing dairy products with whole-soy products is a great way to enjoy the nutritional benefits of dairy without the associated health problems such as congestion of your lymphatic system & digestive system (which interact directly with each other).

A balanced diet is the only way to successfully maintain your genetically-appropriate weight & without doing any damage to your body in the process of achieving that weight.

Soy products have been proven to lower blood cholesterol levels & to protect the over-all health of the heart & arteries, whilst lowering harmful androgens that cause prostate cancer & have been shown to be great for post-menopausal women in helping to balance their hormone levels via soy's eostrogenic properties.

There is very little evidence supporting the singular intake of dairy or soy products lowering weight on they're own accord; it's more likely that any evidence supporting soy or dairy products to actively shed excess lipids is due to other factors playing a part in their lifestyle.

  2. it's not so much whether it is soy or bovine based dairy. 3000 calories of soy products is far more fattening than 500 calories of "normal dairy"
