  1. Maybe you can give a little of both.  That way she can have the best of both worlds.

  2. Soy milk is NOT a healthier choice for a kid that young.  Seriously.  Have you asked her doctor?  Kids need the proteins fats vitamins, etc that are available in milk.

My son is actually allergic to milk (and egg).  I'm talking, vomiting, choking, carrying an epi-pen kind of allergic.  So we HAVE to use soy milk.  BUT to make up the difference that he will lack, we have to supplement with vitamins and calcium (gummy versions).  And I also have to give him more peanut butter to help with the lack of proteins.  (I try meat, but he still won't eat it)

If you choose to use soy milk, I URGE you to discuss it with her doctor.  He/she will be able to evaluate her total diet to figure out what else you will need to add to her diet to make up for the deficiencies.  If she is able to eat a lot more cheeses and eggs, that may help.  I don't have the egg and cheese option.  As soon as we went off soy formula to soy milk, my son stopped gaining as much weight and that is why we had to find alternative ways to get those fats and proteins in his diet.

You could be making a HUGE mistake by using soymilk at this stage, so PLEASE discuss it with her doctor.

At my son's daycare, there is a little boy that is only a few months younger than my son.  I think he's 20 months.  His parents took him off formula at 9 months for no clear reason.  And they don't want to give him milk... again for no clear reason.  He is HALF the size of my son (weight and height).  He looks and acts like a 9 month old.  He's not as active or as curious.  They won't take him to be evaluated (denial perhaps?)  I don't know if his diet is the only reason, but it's the only thing that we know of.

So just be CERTAIN that her dietary needs are being taken care of in other ways if you go with soy.  It's a good alternative for adults, but not so good for toddlers.  A lack of vitamins, fats and proteins at this stage can affect their development.

  3. I prefer regular milk because soy acts like estrogen in the body. something that a little boy OR girl doesn't need.

Why do you think they recommend soy stuff to women in menopause.

Not to mention I think Regular milk has more complete vitamins in it and it has enzymes in it that are necessary.

I avoid soy like crazy for my son.
