  1. ALmost everything has protein.  You will get more then enough just eating a balanced vegan diet.

  2. I like soylent green its good for you, you should try it....

  3. It's absolutely possible.  Protein is plentiful in the plant world, even without soy.  All legumes (beans, peas, peanuts, lentils, chickpeas) are rich sources, and there's a ton of them to choose from.  Quinoa is a complete protein and a good source of iron and calcium, but all whole grains will provide you with protein.  Vegetables, especially dark green ones, have some (on a per calorie basis, broccoli has way more protein than beef.)  And there's also nuts and seeds, which are good sources as well.

Look for some seitan recipes if you like the idea of something "meaty" but don't want soy analogs.  It's made with wheat gluten, which is wheat flour with all the starch rinsed away.  It's pretty much pure protein and can be prepared a million different ways.  "Veganomicon" by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero is great and they have lots of soy-free recipes.

  4. Soy is just a cheap protein source. But it is not the only source. Soy based protein is not necesary as meat protein is not necessary. It is however delicious and easy to work with and readily available so a lot of people eat them even non-vegetarians/vegans (like myself).
