Space between thynes on fork.?

Can anyone tell me what the space between the thynes (thats what the tong things are called right?) on a fork called?

Go with the first answer - tines - and no, you won't find a name for the spaces between the tines.  (Were you thinking about "reading between the lines"?  That is a reference to the ability to think, to "connect the dots" or to construe logically what information has been omitted.  So - sure, it's okay, you are allowed to name the space between the tines if you so wish, but it won't get into the dictionary unless you get a whole lot of other people to use the term and to use it for the same meaning.  (Like, get a popular commedian to use it or get it written into a series show as a running gag line..."


  2. The long rods on a fork are called prongs-There is no word for the Spaces but the word Spaces for the spaces!
