  1. Assuming that the cost per pound was reasonable to launch it towards the sun, it will still never happen.    Suppose one of these rockets blew up a minute or two after launch.  It would spread radioactive waste over a large area, making for some very unhappy voters.

  2. Is proposed, but by the current launch costs, it is still far cheaper to dig the stuff below Earth and lie to the public about how secure it is there.

When you launch waste into space, you need to bring it somewhere, where it can not return quickly. And that is a hard task.

  3. You kidding? This is basic economics, and at $10,000 per kilo to low Earth orbit, it is a financial non-starter. Never mind what a launch mishap would do.

  4. No, we won't .. we will ship it, at great expense, to some country (for processing and safe disposal) that takes a more rational view of the dangers ..

PS don't believe all you hear from the ignorant ill-educated 'anti-nuclear' conspiracy crowd ..  I've been to Hiroshima and stood at 'ground zero' and :-

    (1) I don't 'glow in the dark' :-)

    (2) they started rebuilding the city 3 DAYS after the bomb was dropped

    (3) I spoke to a 'survivor' who was less then 1 mile from ground zero = yes, about 20,000 people are STILL ALIVE, even after all this time... (and no, they are not all dying of cancer .. in fact, after the immediate effects, studies find it hard to show significantly more cancers than 'normal')
