Spaceman Lee blasts off to A2 victory at Nottingham
When the six greyhounds make their way into their traps before each 500m race at the Nottingham Greyhound Stadium, it is almost as if they are rocket ships approaching the loading dock,
ready to blast off into orbit.
Spaceman Lee blasted off to a big A2 win during an exciting day of racing, orbiting around the competition en route to earning a first-place result. The 5-2 favourite bounded out of trap
four and led second to finish the race in 30.67. Second place was claimed by two racers, as there was a dead-heat tie for the position. Bar Mcginty, the 11-4 long shot, and Basic Daniel (6-1) turned in identical 30.81 finishes that placed them 1¾ lengths behind
the winner, and were named joint second-place finishers as a result.
Lusty Lord (7-2) came in fourth place, and was 2½ lengths behind the two second-place dogs. He crowded first, but could not recover in time. He completed the race in 31.01. Effernogue
Claire (5-1) crowded second and wound up in fifth place with a time of 31.21. She was 2½ lengths behind Lusty Lord. Last place went to Skyline Bella (7-2), who crowded first. Her time of 31.25 placed her a ½ length out fifth place.
Killnascully Gem (5-1) emerged as the winner of the A3 race that followed. Coming out of trap six, she led to second and near the finish line, resulting in a 30.97 finish that made the
top spot hers. Jostmar Charlie, the 9-2 long shot, raced to a surprising second-place result after leading second. Her time of 31.03 was just ¾ lengths out of the number one position.
Finishing a head’s length out of second place was Brave Vinnie (7-2), whose clear run landed him in the top three with a third-place finish. He completed the race in 31.04. Salacres Mike,
the 6-4 favourite, also had a clear run, but it was not quite enough to get him into the top three. He settled for fourth place with his 31.18 finish, which was 1¾ lengths behind Brave Vinnie.
Speedy Ceedy (7-1) was not fast enough to claim first place. He crowded first, and finished a head’s length behind the favourite in 31.19. Rounding out the pack was Clover Luck (4-1),
whose luck ran out early on. He moved slowly away and crowded first to finish in 31.37, 2¼ lengths out of fifth-place contention.
Nottingham Greyhound Stadium will hold another action-packed race meeting on Friday, 29 October. The racing gets under way with an A5 race at 18:28.
