Question:

Spaceship building trouble?

I am building a spaceship. I asked a qestion earlier about how to build it, problem is I need more blueprints to pull it off. I'm working on making it a spaceship that can go to other planets. So it would be really helpful if I could have a link to some spaceship blueprints online. Please, spare me some time by not spamming.

  1. Does your mother know?

Who will look after your cat while you're away?

  2. If you're building a spaceship, then you better be a billionare and have lots of friends that are Aerospace Engineers.

  3. Well not one to squash anyones dreams I suggest you look at the TTBrown site for some interesting background.

    Good Luck!!

    : )

  4. I'm kind of wondering if you know what it takes to build a spacecraft... Especially one that is capable of interplanetary travel.

NASA isn't planning its first Mars mission until 2040. That's how long it takes to design, test, experiment, and understand long term effects of spaceflight and the physical capability of actually getting there... not to mention the hundreds of thousands of employees and contractor employees it takes to pull that off.

Also, it will be very difficult to find spacecraft drawings detailed enough for you to get anything out of them, not to mention that no manned craft capable of interplanetary travel has ever been designed or used before.

Most interplanetary missions planned don't use only one spacecraft anyway, it takes several working in tandem to launch the required components into planetary orbit. Not to mention the fact that conventional liquid and solid rocket fuels are probably not going to be used for such a flight. Most likely it would be Nuclear Thermal (see NERVA) or something of the sort.

Then there is mission management and design as well as trajectory optimization, target selection, life support, resources for long-term stay in space, HFE, thermal considerations, return flight considerations, landing, systems engineering, electrical engineering, materials engineering, mechanical, aerospace, chemical, on and on and on...

But if you think you can do it, who am I to stop you. Check out some local libraries and the NASA archives (if you can get access). Those will have all the info you need to get started.

  5. Where are you going?

  6. You have an interesting project in mind.

However I seriously doubt that you will be able to acquire the propellant fuels to power your ship. These materials are either highly corrosive or extremely cold (liquid oxygen). Solid fuel rockets are more or less one way - short time burn devices. Once you light them off, they burn until they run out of fuel.

NASA has all kinds of information available on its web site if you go there and do a lot of reading and exploration. If you are a resident of the USA, your local library will have lots of photographic information available for you to sift through also.

How many large technical projects have you completed prior to jumping into this space ship construction job? There are simply thousands of technologies that you will have to master first, before starting a space ship construction project.

Where will you make your launch? Is it legal to launch rockets from that place? Do you own the property, and all of the surrounding land where debris from an exploding rocket might fall, including all of the falling debris? What will you use as a launch tower?

Lastly, in order to plan for construction of a space ship, you must have a specific destination in mind and the number of crew on board. This is required to calculate the amount of fuel required for the launch and possible return if you plan to come back.

Do you have a large machine shop?

Can you machine and shape titanium? High Grade Aluminum?

What materials will your space ship utilize? Are they satisfactory for operation at Zero atmospheric pressure and

temperatures of absolute zero? When heated to thousands of degrees (re-entry), are those materials still suitable for use?

  7. Isnt it dangrous to send people to other planets? Good luck though
