Spain Celebrates the Greatest Month Ever In Spanish Sport
The people of Spain are ecstatic and the celebrations are still going on. The Astana rider Alberto Contador has claimed the third victory of Tour de France this Sunday in Paris. As the victorious driver returns back for his home in Madrid, Spain this Monday, he gifted a replica of his yellow Tour de France jersey to the prime minister of Spain, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, who celebrated the victory of the cyclist as he returned to homeland.
The Spanish Prime Minister, Zapatero had always been very enthusiastic for all sorts of sports and athletics and has extended all the support of the government to further strengthen all sports. This summer he seems to be spending more and more time with the country sportsmen, he has been engaged all through the summer in greeting the triumphant home grown athletes.
Zapatero praised the sportspersons of his home town saying that they are all brilliant and a reason of great pride for the country, he furthermore told that the Spanish sports is touching new horizons now and is grooming even more with every passing day.
The Spaniard seems jubilant and over the moon as he had been abele to win the Tour de France for the third time out of the last four years. As he entered his country this Monday, he was received by hundreds of his fans who chanted and cheered as their victorious racer came bagging victory from one of the biggest and most looked-for racing events of the world. Among the fans that were desperately waiting to greet the champion, a big group was from his native land of Pinto. As the cyclists entered the Barajas Airport in Madrid, the crowd shouted and congratulated in great spirits and energy. Soon after the warm welcome he received, the excited man winner went for his meeting with the Prime Minister.
The 27-year-old man exclaimed that he was overwhelmed with the way the home fans have greeted him. He explained that he felt wonderful to contribute in Spanish sport at this moment, when the government as well as all the people are working so hard to promote sports in the country. He highlighted that to actively participate in the sports was such a healthy way of living, as well as it is a reason to bring repute to the country. He proudly went on saying that these victories highlighted the country pride.
This year had seen remarkable achievements in sports side by the assistance of the government and the enthusiasm of the people. Spain has been able to lay its hands on the FIFA World Cup soccer cup earlier this month. They had been able to grab the victory only after two years of its revival in the sport as it captured the European championship two years back.
Furthermore, the country was able to stand proud of its continuous dominance in the tennis as Rafael Nadal of Spain was able to win the French Open making it his fifth victory, later he was also successful in snatching victory of the Wimbledon crown as well, which is his second win of the crown. A week later, the Spanish team was able to celebrate once again, this time their victory over the Tennis World Cup title in South Africa.
To add an additional cherry on the cake, the Spanish driver of Formula One driver Fernando Alonso bagged his second race win of the season at the German Grand Prix, the same day on which Contador embraced his victory.
El Mundo, a newspaper in Spain wrote this Sunday after the win of Contador and Alonso, "A Spanish July............ it closed the greatest month ever in Spanish sport."
