Question:

Spain Consulate troubles?

I'm not sure if they're retarded or not but I placed an application for a tourist visa nearly 3 weeks ago. They have my passport with other legal documents and a plane ticket that says I'm leaving on July 19th. I called them yesterday about the status and somehow they figure that I should wait another 4 weeks for documents to be returned. Do you think the receptionist was being stupid or are they serious? If they are, I don't care what amnesty they have, I'm seriously taking legal actions! They should have said 3 weeks ago that it wasn't sufficient time for the process to go through when they know I have a ticket booked for the 19th.

Is it just me getting schengen visas out of that consulate is like pulling teeth?! I've done the same thing with Netherlands, Germany and France over the last 4 years around the same time and it seriously only took 3 days to get everything back. What should I do?

  1. Based on what you say I would recommend you to call them back if you cannot go in person. Ask to talk to a consular agent and not to a receptionist, or even to the consul and explain your situation. If they cannot make it by that time  you should retrieve your papers and ticket.

I'm sure they told you when this will be ready. You may have made a mistake by buying your ticket without having the visa and not knowing when you were going to get it.

You did not say what's your nationality and where you are now so it's not easy to give you more information. You know now everybody is escrutinized because of terrorism and that makes the whole process for visas and passports very slow.

  2. You don't say which consulate it is or what citizenship you are. This would be helpful to provide you with assistance.

Not that this is helpful at this stage, but if you had good luck at a particular consulate, why did you change? A Schengen visa will get you into Spain regardless of what country's consulate issued it.

Your only recourse at this point may be to go to the consulate in person, retrieve your passport and ticket, and start the process over at the consulate that previously was the fastest.
