Spain and Germany win Singles and Doubles titles in the 2011 Morocca International – Badminton news
Spain and Germany win all of the five titles in the Singles and Doubles categories in the 2011 Morocca International, which ended on Monday, May 16.
Spain clinched the Men’s and Women’s Singles titles, whereas Germany took home Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles titles.
In the event of Men’s Singles, Spain’s Pablo Abian grabbed the title by beating Joachim Persson of Denmark in the final match of the championship. Pablo has clinched three titles in the proceeding year, in the European Circuit events.
The rubber-set final between Pablo and Joachim was absolutely thrilling, where both European shuttlers remained toe-to-toe from the start to the end of the fight. It was Pablo, who won the first set with a stunning difference of 21-9.
The Danish player fought back in the match by winning the second game by a 21-17 margin. In the third set, both shuttlers remained equal by playing at the same level. However, Pablo managed to win the set by a tight difference of 21-19.
In the category of Women’s Singles, Carolina Marin of Spain stunned everybody by defeating Juliane Schenk of Germany in the title match with a wonderful margin. In the opening set, Caroline dominated the game and won it by a decent margin of 21-17. In the
second set, she played much better and finished the second set by a 21-13 margin.
Germany’s Johannes Schottler and Ingo Kindervater proved too strong for the team-mates, Oliver Roth and Michael Fuchs in the Men’s Doubles final. Schottler and Ingo took only two sets to beat the opponents and with the 21-15 and 21-14 score on the board.
In the Women’s Doubles, Sandra Marinello and Birgit Michels tamed Emma Wengberg and Emelie Lennartsson of Sweden in a straight set match. Marinello and Birgit played superb badminton in both sets and clinched the title by finishing the match with a 21-16
and 21-16 margin.
In the category of Mixed Doubles, Germany’s Birgit Michels and Michael Fuchs emerged as the winners against Canada’s Grace Gao and Toby Ng, in a straight set match by a 21-15 and 21-16 margin.
